When is the driver trainer industry going to be back?

So, it has emerged today that the end of March may be a realistic time frame to when the current national lockdown may starts to be eased as reported here by The Independent. However, restrictions may still be in place for a while, as the government will ease the restrictions as opposed to just opening up the economy as reported by Ske News. You can read the article here.

What will happen to the driver trainer industry?

This of course is subject to opinion and speculation at the moment. But, if we go by last year’s response – the sector will open up alongside the hospitality sector. Of course, this was after non-essential shops were allowed to start trading back in June 2020. Here is a speculated time-frame of when the driver trainer industry may be able to open up:

  1. Mid- February – all vulnerable people as identified in the top 4 levels to be vaccinated (if this goes to plan)
  2. Add on an extra week for delays
  3. Allow 21 days for the vaccination to take effect
  4. Mid-March is the realistic time frame to when the MOST vulnerable people in society will be protected from the virus.
  5. Throughout march – levels 5 and 6 to be vaccinated.
  6. Allow 21 days for the vaccine to take effect
  7. Easing of restrictions early April – starting with non-essential shops
  8. Remaining vaccinations as identified by SAGE to be conducted.
  9. Allowing 21 days for the response of these effects to take place – including data from non-essential shops opening
  10. Hospitality – restaurants and bars, and the driver trainer industry to open with restrictions – late April – early May
  11. By the end of June all businesses to open with restrictions in place
  12. By end of June half of the population of the UK to have been immunised.

Of course, there are many obstacles that will incur and change this provisional road map. But, from my research, I do believe this is the kind of reality that we are facing.

If the driver trainer sector can be open Mid-to-late April we will very fortunate. But, I don’t believe much will happen prior to this. What are your thoughts?

Either way, please keep well and safe – and hopefully, normality resumes for all of us!

Until next time,

Take care.
